I believe he’s ambidextrous from what I’ve seen in a previous movie of his.
That would explain why I didn’t pick up on it ready. Then again I haven’t seen him in a main character role yet, so I think i just haven’t seen enough of him and during the Avengers I was very distracted because I was invested in the story.
